MAP and Disease

Time has tested the MAP and its effects on multiple conditions that affect humanity. Below are some conditions listed but not limited to.

Heart and circulatory disease

It is estimated that about half the deaths in the U.S. today are due to heart disease. Hypertension (elevated blood pressure) is the most common of all cardiovascular disease. In fact, close to 10% of all appointments in physician’s offices are made because of high blood pressure. Elevated blood pressure may be the first indication that a problem is occurring in the cardiovascular system and may be a major cause of strokes, heart attacks, and congestive heart failure. Cardiovascular disease is not simply one disease but a complex of diseases; thus, any symptom in the cardiovascular system should be taken very seriously. One of the best treatment programs and prevention for cardiovascular disease is a combination of proper dietary intake, nutritional supplements, exercise and stress reduction techniques. A popular misconception is that eating a low fat diet and getting the blood cholesterol under control is the answer. Eating a low fat diet and taking supplements at random will probably not be the answer unless the individual body chemistry, environment and lifestyle are taken into consideration. The Metabolic Assessment Program recommendations may provide good help to prevent and control cardiovascular problems.

Obesity

When you look at any reference book about the cause of almost any disease, you find obesity among that list. Yet many only consider obesity to be a cosmetic problem. Not so, it is a major health problem. Obesity can mask serious health problems such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, liver, colon and kidney disease. Sensible eating and exercise are the best routes for people trying to lose weight. A determine of the individual’s needs obtained from a detailed history and blood tests determining exactly how the individual metabolizes carbohydrates, fats, and proteins needs to be performed. Many turn to fad diets or pills as weight loss aids without realizing that this can cause a strain on the body and can cause damage to the liver, pancreas and kidneys. These tests are a part of the Metabolic Assessment Program. In addition to eating properly, certain food supplements can be helpful in losing weight—but not in the way that most people think. Supplements such as vitamins, minerals, enzymes or herbs should be used to support and strengthen the organs of digestion and elimination such as the liver, pancreas, colon and kidneys. But many still insist on a drug, a food supplement, or fad diet to effortlessly melt their excess pounds. There is no miracle weight loss diet or program without considering the entire body chemistry as recognized by the Metabolic Assessment Program.

Anemia

Anemia can be defined as a decrease in the number of red cells (erythrocytes) in the blood. It can be as a result of blood loss, impaired cell production, increased RBC destruction or a combination of these problems. Anemia is often used as a diagnosis but this is usually incorrect. More specifically, anemia indicates a complex of signs and symptoms. Its presence indicates an underlying disorder and to ignore even a mild anemia is a serious error. Merck Manual, the most prestigious and commonly used publication of diseases, their causes, their diagnosis and standard treatments identifies a minimum of 16 types of anemia. Many physicians relate anemia only to a lack of iron and this is a grave injustice to the patient with a lowered red blood cell count. One of the requirements of the Metabolic Assessment Program is to test not only the number of red cells but includes a differential to help determine the health of the cells present and if not correct, the appropriate dietary and food supplement can be recommended. And, when the cause of the anemia can be identified, recommendations are made to improve the function and efficiency of the organs of blood organization, primarily the liver, spleen, and bone marrow. At least 12 nutrients are involved in red blood cell production including protein, iron, vitamin C and the B vitamins. The diet should be examined for deficiency of these items. The organs involved in the utilization of these items should also be examined for function and efficiency.

Digestive Disturbances

Proper digestive tract function must be complete to achieve proper nutrition. It has been stated that "we are what we eat." More properly this could be stated "we are what we absorb and utilize from what we eat." Digestion is the process by which food is changed into various chemical entities in preparation for absorption. Digestion actually begins with the taking of foods or liquids in the mouth and the mixing with saliva which contains some digestive juices. Once food has been chewed and swallowed and enters the esophagus, it is no longer under conscious control of the individual. As food moves into the stomach, it is mixed with gastric juices for several hours before moving into the intestines. The divisions of the digestive system allow the stomach, small intestine and colon to carry on their distinct roll in the processing and absorption of nutrients. Interference with the function of any part of the gastrointestinal tract can induce various types of malnutrition, even if the person is overfed and overweight. In many instances, it is necessary to improve the efficiency of the gastrointestinal tract function before real benefits can be realized from good dietary intake or a specific nutritional program. It is important to identify how the digestive system is handling carbohydrates, fats, protein, vitamins and minerals before recommending a specific diet or food supplements composed of vitamins, minerals, enzymes, herbs, or antioxidants. The Metabolic Assessment Program will help make these determinations. A person may spend hundreds of dollars for high quality foods, vitamins, minerals, enzymes, herbs, antioxidants, etc., but if the portion of the digestive system that breaks these nutrients down for absorption is inefficient, there is no benefit.

Arthritis

If you present yourself to a physician and tell him about your aches and pains in the joints and his response is that you have "arthritis" he has simply put a label on your complaint and telling you back what you just told him, that you have joint pain! Statistically speaking, almost all persons over the age 40 have some pathologic changes in weight bearing joints. As everyone ages, there is some wear and tear but the more solid the nutritional base, the less effect of aging. While rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis seem different conditions, they both affect the health of the joints and connective tissue of the body. And the remedy for both of them is to clear the fluids of the joints from toxins and waste products. It is a physiological truth that the LIVER is the filter of the body. Every blood cell goes through the liver filter every 3 to 4 minutes. One of the most important aspect of the blood is that each blood cell should carry oxygen. Oxygen is the energy component for every cell of the body. And, if the blood has more waste in it than can be filtered by the liver, what happens to it? The body says, "let’s park this waste wherever there is some fluid". And the joints of the knees, elbows, shoulders, and discs of the spine is the recipient of the toxins. Thus, whenever arthritis (inflammation of the joints from whatever source) is present, the very first priority is detoxification and clearing the joints of stored waste. I know that we can get lost in the hype of many natural products, many of them good and having symptomatic temporary results. However, the problem of arthritis will not be solved unless the fluid of the joints is cleared, and the proper vitamins, minerals, enzymes and other nutrients are present to repair, rebuild, and prevent further problems. The matter of arthritis is not just treating "arthritis" but doing what is necessary to build healthy joints and connective tissue. A well designed nutritional program will not only help your joint problems, but will help you to reach good health for the rest of your life!

Diabetes

Diabetes can take many forms but is generally acknowledged as high glucose (sugar) level in the blood. While the pancreas is the major organ involved in the regulation of the sugar level, many organs and systems are often involved including kidneys, liver, cardiovascular system, eyes and the nervous system. Yes, diabetes can be a diagnosed disease and needs to be considered as such. However, many forget that every diabetic is not the same and the correct diet for every diabetic individual is not always the same. Obesity and lifestyle is often a factor in diabetes and needs to be considered in the management and treatment of elevated sugar levels in addition to dietary considerations. There is no simple solution or simple diet that can be assigned to every person with a diagnosis of diabetes. The strengths and weaknesses of the pancreas relating to protein and carbohydrate metabolism needs to be considered. The strengths and weaknesses of the liver relating to fat and mineral metabolism needs to be considered. There is no simple solution or simple diet that can be assigned to every person with a diagnosis of diabetes. A complete assessment of the blood chemistry and metabolism such as available with the Metabolic Assessment Program is needed to help determine the management of a person diagnosed with diabetes.

Allergies

When an individual gets a "bad" reaction to either foods or environmental conditions it has become popular to consider that the reason is an ‘allergy.’ Much testing can be done to identify the offending substance. However, the problem often may not relate to the offending substance, but to an inefficiency of the adrenals, pancreas, liver, cardiovascular or immune system. The respiratory system and oxygen utilization may also be involved. For instance, if a person can handle a certain food, or certain environmental conditions for years, and then begins to give adverse reactions to the food or environment, the problem is not that an "allergy" has developed. The problem may be that the functions of the organs such as liver, pancreas, lungs, kidneys, immune and cardiovascular system etc., have become less efficient or a result of "overload." When organs become less efficient, many good foods and even usual environmental conditions, cause problems, the problem is not an "allergic" reaction, but can be a result of lessened efficiency or exhaustion of the organs and systems involved. The MAP can help to identify strengths and weaknesses or inefficiencies of the adrenals, pancreas and liver and recommendation foods and nutritional products to help repair, rebuild and strengthen the organs and systems involved so that adverse reactions no longer apply. Please do not overlook the fact that certain environmental items and certain foods that may have been in damaging amounts in the past may need to be identified and avoided, but the main point and remedy is to identify the offending item and at the same time strengthen the immune and digestive system so these items can again be tolerated.
